Bass trombonist of the Staatskapelle Dresden

Frank van Nooy, born in 1960 in Quedlinburg, received his first trombone lessons in 1969 from Kurt Müller. Just a year later, he became a permanent member of the Güntersberge Youth Wind Orchestra. From 1971 to 1976, he continued his musical education at the Quedlinburg Music School, and from 1976 to 1979, he studied at the Military Music School in Prora on the island of Rügen, majoring in trombone under Klaus Müller. From 1979 to 1986, he served as principal trombonist with the Central Orchestra of the former NVA in Berlin. During this time, he also studied at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin with Harald Winkler. His career continued with positions as utility trombonist in the Berlin Radio Orchestra (1986–1992) and as second trombonist with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (1992–1995). From 1995 to 2002, he was principal bass trombonist of the Dresden Philharmonic, before joining the Staatskapelle Dresden in 2002 in the same role. In addition to his orchestral work, he performs in various chamber music ensembles, including Semperbrass Dresden, Four in Hand, the Courtois Trombone Quartet Dresden, and the Ensemble Alte Musik Dresden.
